Hello everyone,

first post here.  Just started listening to Michael's Hay House radio show about a month ago.  I found it to be a refreshing way to change how you look at life.  It just sort of felt "right" to me when listening to his concepts.  I then started thinking "what is Michael?"  Is he a motivational speaker?  Not really because he said he has individual clients.  hmmm  Is he a psychiatrist?  No... they don't talk how Michael talks.  I couldn't figure it out. That was until one of his shows where a woman called in, said she was a life coach and was having difficulty getting her business started up.  I had never heard the term "Life coach" before in my life and it intrigued me!

About two months ago, I mentioned to my wife that I felt this need to call a few people and ask them if they would like to sit down and hear me do a talk about how to jumpstart theif lives and to see if I could help make some life improvements for them.  I had no structure of how I was going to do this and it was just an idea that popped into my head.  The idea had a lot of passion behind it but slipped away about a day later.  When I heard about Life Coaching I heard myself say "Go after that! You would love it!!" and so I signed up here to post to the forums to get some advice.  So that's my story in a nutshell (obviously there is more to it, but that's the basics) about how I came to want more info on Life Coaching.

I did some research and it looks like you need a certification to become a life coach.  Could anyone point me in the right direction to learn more about life coaching?  I would greatly appreciate any help!

Thank you!

Hi Adam and welcome

Being here in the UK, I don’t know, what structure that is needed in the USA, yet here in the UK, there is no formal licensing, which means, anybody can set up a NLP, hypnosis, life coaching company, with out to much trouble, so I am assuming you could probably do the same, yet that means, you lake any credibility in many ways and would have no support from a net work of people on the same path. And I am sure someone  will be able to give you the lay out much better then this.

The 2 Links below are to Meta-Coaching which is one of the most up to date Coaching systems, in the world, and it is hosted by Michael Hall, who is by far one of the most gifted NLP educators on the planet, and has done an incredible Job at adding academic credibility, to NLP,  and the 2nd link is also to Michael Hall’s  Neuro-semantic wed site, this as little to do with coaching yet the articles are a delightful read, and will show you just how this Guy can deliver, I am a big fan Of Michael Hall and have about 20 or so of his books,

Getting back to coaching, the meta-coaching web site have a number of free audio files to down load, that will give you some ideas, of where you might what to be heading.

One book I would recommend, would be The Life coaching Handbook By Curly Martin, will give you a good foundation, of what your responsibilities with regards to the coaching session.

Hope this is helpful

Hi Jay,

Thanks for the tips.  I am able to intuitivly pick up things and I ususally have a good talent to find the right thing to say to someone when they ask me questions about their iife, however I would still feel more comfortable going through some training first.  I checked out the sites and they look great!  Just wish they were in the U.S.  Smiley

These sites really will help me to discover more about coaching so thank you again.

Michael Hall is based in the USA. I made a BO-BO and put the UK site link and not the international one.  As you can see from both neuro-semantics and Meta coaching addresses, there are the same.

Training is a good thing to do, as even though you have a talent of being intuitive, sometimes, you have to work with paradoxical issues, “I am fearful of success, yet even more so of failure” this type of language, create a push, pull and creates a stuck state, so you need to find ways of creating, a win, win, for both possibilities, intuition alone wont cut it, yet it’s a good start.

Be well stand tall.

Excellent!  thanks.  Yeah, I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a client and not having proper training.  I have the passion and base skills I think, but I can use some polishing.  I love to learn though so it's a win win for me too!   Grin

Thanks again!

Hi Adam

There are literally dozens of colleges out there advertising life coaching courses, and I did a lot of research before I selected the college I'm with - and I can't recommend them highly enough.  No, I'm not employed by them, I'm just a student, but their customer care is amazing.  Check them out - Noble Manhattan.  Gerard O'Donovan runs the college and is an absolutely amazing speaker and very warm person.  His staff all have a similar attitude and the course is quite spiritually-based, so if you're that way inclined, that might also be appealing.  Ultimately, college choice is a personal decision, but I haven't had a second's regret about choosing Noble Manhattan.  If you decide to go for it, good luck, coaching is a really rewarding profession.

Regards,
Carol

I will definately check them out!  Thanks for the advice.

I had checked out coachtrainingalliance.com and it is a 6 month program and costs 2500 w/ materials and course fees.  It seemed pretty good and I don't have much $$ to spend on it right now, but figured I could swing the 2500.  How much is your school and do they offer distance ed?
