Hi

By way of introduction, this year I have completed the NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner courses with Richard, John, Michael and Paul, which has turned my life around completely.  I have worked with a couple of clients in between my courses, but have not had a chance to work with anyone for months due to my own stuff (moving house, major surgery etc.)

A client that I have worked with once before (with great results - he is very easy to work with) is coming to see me again on 20th December.  He is a musician, so last time I took full advantage of his artistic side in the exercises we did.  I asked him for a brief idea of what he would like to work on so I can do some preparation and he sent me the following:

"I have a feeling somewhere inside I'm not fully convinced of my impending
career/financial success. Things are moving really quickly and I can see my
path ahead and externally I tell myself that everything I'm planning will
work out, but I hear a voice inside suggesting otherwise...  Is that
something you could help with?"

I find his wording very interesting and helpful for me (much feeling, seeing, hearing, telling) but I would very much appreciate any advice and tips you could give me.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Sophie

Just going from your snippet,

I have a feeling somewhere in side, “ask him to locate it get him to give it a color, shape, size, and a dimension, a weight and anything else that you can add, to it make it into a living energy form. Then have him imagine, being able to move it around his body. Once you have done that, ask him if he would be willing to have that entire feeling stuff move into his little finger nail, just for a little while.  Just say it would be a good idea, for a while.

“I'm not fully convinced of my impending
career/financial success”   as your not fully convinced, about your impending career/ financial success, does that mean you going to give in, and not take responsibility, and make you impending career and financial success, you number one priority, and in doing so making the necessary adjustment, that work well for you and your future, in any and all aspects of your life and well being.

“Things are moving really quickly and I can see my
path ahead and externally I tell myself that everything I'm planning will
work out” build on this, make his dreams, full multi sensory, 3D colour, and get him to be more specific about out-comes, and time lines,  he will have this done by this time, he will have got to this, part of is plan by that time, also include, a number of other ways of getting to the same place if ant set back occur, you can get his other then conscious mind to do that, also make sure that everything he wants he is also in the picture sharing his life with friends and family, and make sure he adds time for the special people in his life, as part of his plan.

“but I hear a voice inside suggesting otherwise”  have him listen to the voice, and have him speed it up, then slow it right down, then up, than have it run backwards, and faster and faster,  now you might need to get a CD, and for this next bit, have the voice that one in side him head, say the same thing as the one out side of him, now play some up beat music, and have the inner voice, sing along and repeating what the out side voices tells him. Once you have done that have him place the old voice on the tip of his finger nail.

Now get him to think about all kinds of delightful positive feelings, ever from past times or events, of just have him make them up. And anchor them for him, get him to get into the state and at its peak press him finger and thumb, do this enough times, then when he does that he gets the go feeling going.

Get him to see, hear and feel his life plan as he wants it to be, get him to go the  very end of his time line,  in that new, place having all his goals and dreams and get him to walk back from that time into the hear and now, making any and all adjustment, in any and all ways that he wants and needs, and adding or dropping anything that is not right, while he is walking back get him to fire this finger thumb anchor, until he get to the here and now, have him turn around so he can look at this new future, and then get him to cut the tip of the nail of, letting go of all that yucky stuff.

This is one of many possibilities that you can play with, I am sure you will find other ways also.

Enjoy.

Thank you so much Jay.  You have given me a lot to work on there.  I love the finger nail idea - I'll enjoy using that one.

I have read so many of your words on this site, and learnt much from them.  Thank you.

Sophie

I would love to hear any more ideas on this, to learn from other people's angles on it.

Hi Sophie

I see that Jay, as normal Grin, makes some really useful suggestions. I was just wondering if there was anything he was afraid would (or would not) happen if he did (or for that matter didn't) follow that path ahead he mentioned.

I'm going to avoid mind reading here and as I am in a curious mood I was curouis about how you are feeling about working with your very easy to work with client on the 20th?

Hi Jen

It turns out that I won't be seeing him on the 20th (changes of plans regarding Christmas holidays), but I do plan to see him in January, although we haven't fixed a date yet.

As for how I am/was feeling about working with him....  Well, these are the first words that come into my head.  Nervous, less than capable, excited, scared.  Although I really enjoyed working with him earlier this year, and his feedback was great and full of thanks, I'm feeling like such a 'junior' at practising NLP on others and not confident with it.  Reading stuff written by experienced NLP Practitioners helps me much but reminds me how much study and practice I need.

I have not been reading and studying as much as I think I should to make the progress I want to make.  For some reason, I am stopping myself getting on and studying/practising.  Several people I know have asked to have a session with me but I'm the one who is putting it off and I haven't yet pinpointed why.  It's mad because I got such a buzz during and after the two sessions I have done (with this man and another friend) and I have seen a huge difference in the friend.

There are a couple of things I must sort out in my own head/life which will help me move onwards and upwards but I think I need the help of another NLP Practitioner for this as I find it works better coming from someone else (maybe that is because I don't believe my own voice).  Many NLP exercises have worked very well doing them myself, but there's some stuff I can't seem to change on my own.  I'd be interested to hear if other people find NLP works better coming from someone else rather than doing it on yourself.

This is all coming across to me as very negative so, to balance it a bit, I have to say that having properly discovered NLP in April 2006, I have changed my life so much and have sorted out and got rid of so much sh** from my head.

I'm not going to read this before I post it, as I have a feeling I will want to edit it.  You asked a simple question and look what happened!!

Thanks Jen.

Hi Sophie

The original patterns in NLP, where primarily designed, for practitioners to use with others, yet it is very possible with some tweaks, here and there, to run most any preformatted, pattern in a self-actualization way, and if you have read the part of the board “article possibility” then one of the aspects, behind doing this, is to have the articles in a “HOW TO” format,  so it becomes, as a type of modelling process, as pattern creation, is one of my gifts.

As for learning and practicing NLP, you can learn yet to practice, is something you don’t need to do, as you have been doing NLP, since you was born, so all you have to do is keep this question in mind “what makes the difference” if you sort from difference, then you will notice patterns, in language, and both verbal and none verbal a like, also by noticing the differences, mean that you also be able to notice what is the same, as you will be running and looking for comparisons.

Using a metaphor if you have a jigsaw with out a box, then you may never, notice the wonderful picture you are about to create, yet if you have a jigsaw, and the picture it not as wonderful as you want it to be, then you can change the picture, to one that will be a wonderful and as rewarding, as you piece things together.

One of the first presumptions, in NLP is if something is not working in the way you want, do something different, and keep doing something different till you get what want.

One of the primary, keys to NLP is state control and state flexibility, or from Zen, mind like water, if you drop and pebble in water, the water dose not freak out and get all tense, it just is, and allows the pebble to be a pebble, and in doing so, is at ease with its nature and so can fit and flow in to any situation, and just be.

So just like playing with NLP, notice what is going on, first on the inside, as that governs, everything on the out side, focus on what you do what, only. Think about being confident how is that to you?  How can you make that better? And how do you make that better?  Ands so on.

Oops I did it again, went on a tangent. Will, stop here. Jay

Hi Sophie,

I know I wasn't at the April practitioner course but I have a sneaking suspiscion that your training did not contain much reading and studying Smiley Now, I'm not saying that if you really love to read and study that you should not do that (personally I have had to buy bookshelves just for my NLP related books and products). The reason I mention this is that if reading and studying is not the way you really love to learn a new skill, do it the way that works for you rather that how you think it should be done to get it right.

I'm going to paraphase Richard Bandler here, as I know I have heard him say on several occaisons (as well as practically every really good NLP trainer) with the fact that we are all constantly learning and developing. I know that some people work on a strategy of comparing themselves to others to evaluate where they percieve their skills to be. Sometimes if they are picking an unuseful compariosn it can result in them coming to the conclusion that they should study more etc and prevent themselves of going having fun playing to develop their own style, having let those who have been playing longer to make mistakes and to learn from those.

Before I go and write my Christmas cards one quick thought, that may or may not be useful to you, i don't know which part of the world that you are in but some people find playing in a practice group a fun way of developing even more.

Hiya Electra

Ok let’s set the frame, you have to read the rest of this, in a sexy French accent!

Lets look at le guilty, “I don’t want to feel guilty” don’t is a negation, look at this don’t think about a pink and orange spotted monkey-goat-fish that the legs of a monkey the body of a goat and the head of a fish, Now don’t think about it!!! Stop, stop, just stop thinking about it, what you not thinking about, so negation leads to locking your thoughts in place, so if you was to think about what you want to feel in place of guilty just what would that be?  Maybe, generous, kind, helpful grateful, grateful that you are in a position to give and help others.

You can read this in your normal voice now.

Take a little time to write down, all your strengths, and all the thing that you do in your present work and the things you have learnt and are learning from Your MBA that can or could me transformed to home work. Also add all the things you love about your present work, and all the other work you have ever done, tapping into this flow stream, may help you create a number of associations that may point you to what may be a good thing for you.

Maybe you might like to play an abundance game,  I have added a PDF to this where you can print out a check, I got the check from “the secret” website,  which is a site devoted to the law of attraction,  write out the check and tap into the laws of abundance for ideas creativity. Any way, fill out the check, and keep in your heart and mind, and see what happens while you are doing, the things, that will allow you to find your path.

Tap in to your best self, and when you are making choices, do it from a place of strength, and you will make the best decisions, that allow you to get what you want in life.

Imagine that you are where you want to be, mind body heart, step in to being wealthy, that means having a positive relationship with loved ones family friends, health, business and any aspect of life that you have a relationship with. And you might just surprise, at how easy things become.

Own it, live it love it

Hi all

Thanks for more great words.  I'll have a go at your suggestions.

I do like your point, another Jen, about the studying.  I have never studied as such before.  In the past I have not been a big reader and find that I learn best from people and not books.  That's why I enjoyed the Prac and Master Prac courses so much as they were very much hands on.

Yes, I do compare myself to others who, I believe, are better at it than me.  I do have a problem when they say that they have read every book there is and have studied like mad to be an NLP Practitioner, and I suppose I have a belief that if I don't study in the same way as them I will never be able to learn enough to go into practice.  I guess I need to find other ways to study/learn more.

Thank you again, Jay, Jen and Electra.  This has helped me.

Well just a quick thought, NLP may have started with Grinder and Bandler, and the other co founders, yet It does not stop, with them it begins again with you, and your passions, curiosity, and the new distinctions that you make, you are already a beyond master of NLP, life coaching, hypnosis, etc. just step into that and the skill and competence, will find it’s way, into you.

Well that is my mind set, if it helps us it

Hello Jay,

Thank you for your information. I'm going to read this again and let it soak in...I understood the information about coming form a place of strength rather than a place of guilt but the visual of the head of a goat or something got me confused. You're right it stopped me from thinking about my temporary situation  Grin.

I printed out the check and I will make copies. I'm going to practice paying off my debts Grin until it manifests into my reality.

I'm curious about this website also - "the secret" what is web address?

Thanks,

Hi Electra

The web site is www.thesecret.tv

Please pay attention to how you communicate to your mind, I will practice paying off, is maybe not, the best way to go about, having it done,  see, hear and feel what your life will, be like if you had, a healthy bank balance, and was working in a way that works well for you.

Just imagine if you was a tennis player and the only thing you did was to practice your serve, the only thing you would be come good at would be serving, now imagine wining each game, and building up your ranking, then after you have done all the steps, that you need, with timing, flexibility, focus, balance, making any adjustments so you can play, on grass, or clay, in doors and out, then you give yourself, more options, so you can win, and play your best game.

You have to take your beliefs of success into a higher ranking system the system of knowing, knowing that success, in ever form, will just fall into place.

And like a jigsaw if you don’t like the picture on the box change it.
