How many of you have had a client who says they want to give up smoking and whatever you do they still smoke? I am struggling to 'see or hear' any clues but after a session do not 'feel' 100% congruant that she will stop. I have included NLP techniques including reframe, hypnosis, applied kinesiology and EFT. She has had fears of driving in the rain (its Australia and the rain is heavy!) lack of confidence with work and relationships and i have seen and heard how she has changed and is looking forward to her future and making plans.. and she has re-booked and recommended a friend. So.... all is not lost my intuition is that she isnt 100% congruent with giving up If this is the case i wonder should i work on making her 100% congruent? Any suggestions gratefully received Ange xx

Hi Anglia
A few questions before I do my patter, when you are working with the smoker, is she in a state where she needs a smoke?
When there is a habit based process like smoking then it is a real good idea to have the person come to the session wanting a smoke, this way you get access to the addition drivers and higher quality feedback. Do you use trance/ hypnosis? As smoking is both a chemical addition/ and an anchored conditioned muscle memory patterned response.
So it may be that you have to do a closed eye process so you can create a deeper level of communication with the other than conscious mind.
Jay
PS did you get my PM about the PDF?

Hiya Jay i have done hypnosis with her with excellent results on her fears but not with the smoking. The idea of her needing a cigarette at the time may be the key! I sent you a pm earlier today to thankyou for the book download. Thank you again Angie xxx

Hi ,i have had similar clients who go back to smoke,it seems the most difficult subject, what i do is anchor them at their own funeral ....describe it etc etc...and really hit that home with whatever illness etc they giv you...cancer etc then i go to the how good it feels on a time line as a non smoker......anchor that...1 month 1 yr 5 yrs 10 etc etc then fire both anchors together which confuses the un councious...and release the funeral one ...keeping the healthy one for the uncouncious to choose...(with out words)that bit ! ) good luck peter

Peter read your tip for giving up smoking anchoring. Thought I should mention just in case you failed to mention it in your post. To get the funeral anchor to collapse you MUST HAVE a much stronger anchor on the healthy choice. This will mean maximum strength anchors correctly timed, and best to stack several states together to be sure of the power of the attachment to feeling good. Because you want the client in your suggestion to feel really bad about the idea of his own death you will want to make that quite strong, after all most people will react with a dislike of that end result! Because of that you may well find that the feel good anchors do not overpower and you will get the funeral anchor being stronger!
If your not careful you might get them back suffering with panic attacks about death! You dealing with an away from strategy (the funeral) and if that is a strategy that they respond to in most instances it is unlikely to work in the collapse anchor technique.
Try aversion smoking anchor (that they want to be sick). link smoking to something that they hate. anchor not smoking to something they enjoy. Use swish to see trigger (first frame) the last thing they remember before smoking i.e the cigaret coming to the mouth. and the final swish frame (disassociated) of them putting an unlit cigaret down. Attach positive feel good anchor to the new frame.
Hope this helps.
Regards Peter

Hi. There are lots of tips in Paul McKenna's new book "Quit Smoking Today". I can vouch for the techniques as I bought the book 2 weeks ago and I've not had a cigarette for a week and a half and I'm actually feeling relaxed and happy about it. I listen to the CD everyday and I only did each of the exercises once before moving to the next. The ones that seemed to have the most effect on me were remembering a time when I made a decision to "go for it!" and attach that to stopping smoking. And the other is where I thought about 4 times when I had that "never again" feeling (had to make up 2 imaginary experiences) and run through them over and over building up the feeling until something inside snapped. I also found another one effective to build on at a time when I had already stopped smoking which sort of ties in with what others have said about going into two futures. One with still smoking and one where I quit today. Oh Oh! and there is that tapping. Don't know HOW it works but it chills me right out and makes me feel in total control.
Brian
PS. Michael. I wonder if you can pass on my thanks to Paul McKenna and for him to keep up the great work! Much appreciated.

There is a rhythm too it, Peter - a sort of a 'fuzzy discipline' that is predicated on being very choosy about what I decide to do and not do with my time! If you don't mind, would you e-mail jessica@geniuscatalyst.com re:the affiliate thing - not sure what's going on with it but I'm sure she'll be able to help you out! love, michael

Alan Carr - The Easy Way to Stop Smoking is something you might get some ideas from- it as nothing to do with NLP/Hypnosis yet is one of the best stop smoking programmes on the market- and with a little bit of NLP/hypnosis from you and you could create a induction/process out of the information-
