Michael,

Your newsletter of today (MNCT 548) was simply wonderful and all inspiring. It's a great read.

Yet, to put practice to work I wondered: 'what is excellence exactly?' It is typically one of those nominalizations that most of us tend to know, yet, few of us really grasp let alone materialize consciously. Looking up the definition of excellence and excel hardly got me further:
  • To do or be better than; surpass.
  • To show superiority; surpass others.
  • Distinguish oneself
  • The fact or state of excelling; superiority; eminence.
  • An excellent quality or feature.

Do better than what / who? Surpass what / who? Show superiority over whom? With what purpose? Distinguish from what / whom with what purpose?

Seems that these definitions evoke the ego to be in the spotlight and that intuitively seems to be quite the opposite of excellence. Wouldn't we all live in a more productive and better world when egos could be left out of the equation of doing good to others and ourselves. Is one element of excellence not selflessness or beneficial to those around us and ourselves?

I am more than curious how you define excellence and how you go about achieving it. For that matter I look forward to any reactions on excellence.

Ego  is part of us, ego still exists, it is how we apply it or use it and how we live with it. From the moment we become self aware we have ego,  It is not evil or good. Some choose (train) not to exercise it at all. Leaving ego out of the equation is like leaving love or hate or any emotion out, I guess your seeing it as kind'va a paradox, which looking at it like that, is or seems like it is.

Hi

Here is something to consider.

There is no ego! No Subconscious mind! There is only consciousness and the articulation of attention.
Something to keep in mind, are things like ego, and any other adage are just distinctions, of the facets of consciousness,  the more classifications there are, to represent an idea, there are building more and more filters, in front of the raw experience.

That my consciousness talking lol

Yes consciousness uses language to name ideas, concepts and processes, the create and solidify experience, labels are needed for many, many things, like fire and pain, yet the ego and the way it as been used in the filed of psychology, as in many ways created a none entity, that as created a way for people to not take personal responsibility for their own well being.

So by striping away un-useful labels, then you stop making excuses, and live and operate from place of personal power and excellence.

Test this for me, grab old of your ego, and hold it in one of your hands, go on do it, did you find it?

Now notice the feelings of your body in your seat, notice any sounds in the room, and play attention to how the inside of your mouth feels.  Remember something that made you happy 3-5-10 years back, and think of 1-3-7-11- things that would make your tomorrows, just wonderful.

ALL CONSCIOUSNESS

Hi Chris

Excellence in many ways a structure of comparisons, as there as to be a bench mark to work from, yet as Excellence is based in an internal mapping, the criteria that people look for, may well be very different for what I look for, so having access to a higher ordering set of beliefs, that open up the capabilities, that allows a level of flexibility that leads to knowing that where ever we are now, in any give skill level, is our current bench mark, now when we do the job of looking out at what others are able to do, as apposed to what are able to do at this time, can be a deflating personal mandate that gets in our way, as we become overly self conscious, that steps on and in the way of our more functional capabilities, yet on the other hand it can lead to a catalyst that brings out the very best in our selves, that allows use to use “news of difference” as a way to catapult use to higher levels in being able to make finer and finer distinctions that allows use to master a particular skill set.

As one way of looking at how we capture excellence, is knowing that we have to start somewhere, as knowing that through time and experience  we can only get more and more streamlined in that skill.

Hi Neil

How about this for a quick observation, about being human, you say, that you don’t always do your best, well maybe just maybe you do, from this point of view you do and are doing your best in that moment, in relation to the energy and state of consciousness you are in, at that time.
