I have an opportunity to partner with someone and launch a new business that could lead to some much needed financial security. However, the work itself and the place which I am currently located, are not my ideal.
I am less than secure financially and, as a single mom, I feel like the logical action would be to jump on this opportunity. It has been suggested to me that I ought to "buckle down" and do work that is less than inspiring in order to be financially "stable" enough to do what I really want. Is this the bitter truth? I would really appreciate some thoughts and ideas. Thanks!

Hi , what i suggest you do is place peices of paper on the floor and seperate your thoughts, both the good and the bad and look at each one individually, cognitivly if you like. Then ewrite thoughts as they come into your head on each list and go through them one by one
although in your position ,you need to be cautious as ther are a lot of cons about... saying that life is about taking risks,,but calculate them
try walking a time line as the new venture and see what limits there are , and then work through the limits ,or negative things with good old common sense.
A tip always listen to other people BUt always decide and act on your own gut feeling
Good luck

Hi Hilary Smiley
One non NLP technique that I learned on my management diploma course is to  create a "risk register" (just a list) and then create contingency plans to deal with the risks as they arise.

You can then use this info to walk through your time line.
There is a technique developed by Robert Dilts for problem solving which I've done at a practice group which is very powerful. But I've forgotten the name. (anybody know?) (Nick?)
You view where you are at the present, view your past position, view the position you want to be in the furture, consider the costs of getting there and being in your new position to discover if its really where you want to be and worth the effort. Do this spacially ( simmliar to walking your time line) standing in each position and veiwing the problem or decision from the different perspectives.
Another technique I was shown is rub your forefinger and thumb together while thinking about the decision and if they "sticky or your feel resistance" either say no or be very carful how you proceed. If your finger and thumb are moving smoothly then go for it!! Smiley

Please try all these before taking any major decisions Smiley
Hope this helps

Hi Mike,

Would it be S.C.O.R.E (Symptoms, Causes, Outcome, Resources and Effects) that you are thinking off?

A couple of things come to mind:
- ask yourself if you 'buckled down' would you be happy still doing that in 1 year, 3 years, 5 years?
- if you're concerned about the risks then take a piece of paper and on the left hand side put the heading ' what's the worst that can happen?' and write down beeath it all your fears, concerns and worries.  Then on the right hand side, put the heading 'if that happened I would...' and write down against each of your fears what you would do.  And if you then do all those things now, your worries, fears and concerns are unlikely to happen!

And have fun to!
