Hi Michael,
I would just add to keep tapping into their natural talents/strengths and what they naturally do best (what probably attracted you to invite them onto your team), and specifically thanking them for that specific talent/task.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have other virtual assistants working under me - we call each other superhero names to recognize our individual talents and keep it fun - easy to feel good about yourself when you are called wonderwoman or superman on a regular basis!

I totally infect them with my enthusiasm about my crazy ideas and how to realize them, so they want to be part of it, too, without getting paid for it!!!
(Still working on perfecting that one...)
Or, I tell them that they are the expert on a certain subject that I need advise on and if I could pick their brain.
Or, I tell them that they are best at X and I really don't wanna ask anyone else, because I really need to rely on it getting done properly and I only trust them, because I know how fantastic they are at X.
Once they helped me out, I'm excited about being a step further and grateful and I praise them - and mean it! Most people really like to help or are flattered when asked for advise.
