Wow!  This is something that had honestly never occurred to me!  When my girls were little I tried to balance all the "Beautiful" compliments with remarks about how smart and kind they were.  It never occurred to me that there was a better way.  I think every parent should read this and every teacher should suggest it to parents!  Learned a lot from this!

I teach welding and metal work to the terrified.

I always remind my students before the first spark is struck that welding is a skill that they will get better at over time... like driving.

and that the fear they feel when they do fire up their first sparks is a response that can be worked through as well.
