1  Genius Catalyst / Michael's Coaching Tips / Re: On Virtue on: November 26, 2007, 05:21:51 PM
Pearl Diver you have certainly put a lot of thought into this. You have inspired me to do a lot of thinking in another area which I've been putting off for a while. Perciverence, determination and belief are part of me now.

Lack luster <------ Determined ------> obsessive
Despair <------ Believing ------> overconfident

Have to agree with you Michelle that it is indeed well written. Very insightful and overflowing with wisdom. His description of the storm pulled me all the way in and when I reemerged there was a change. If I was to travel back in time and meet myself I would tell me that I am going to really enjoy this book and tell everyone on genius catalyst. I really enjoy this book Grin
4  Coaching / Ask the Coach / Re: Depression: Is it really all in the mind? on: November 20, 2007, 07:37:38 AM
I'm not really the depressed type but whenever I feel myself in that place I change my focus by asking what I'm happy about in my life and it works every time.

I know everyone is different but I think the one thing we have in common is our internal world dictates how we perceive the external world and how perceive ourselves.

I don't think you are lazy and love the quote that "There is no such thing as laziness only lack of incentive".

I think asking questions about "am I this" or "am I that" often lead to answers that we are still unsure about or end up giving us the belief that we are broken in some way. I think a better question is "How would I like to be?" and experiencing that new you as if it is happening now. The more you do this the more you become that person.

I'm not a doctor but if you can still function at some level of competency as you seem to be doing then you have the potential to increase that level.

Peace
Brian

Looking at a paper cup might elicit 0mmmmms

I think I had my  Angry head on when I wrote the above post. I seen what I perceived as a hard sell tactic and reacted in a negative manner. Some ads are funny. Some are annoying. Some start off funny and become very annoying. And some have me reaching for baseball bat. I had to give away my tele before I made a rectangle shaped hole in my window and squashed a passing army of ants. Having a sense of humour about these things helps.

Peace.

I do one then release the anchor and relax. Then I trigger the anchor and go onto the next while still holding the fingers together.

I was explaining the technique to someone this morning. I was describing a compliment I had recently and as I got back into the memory it triggered the anchor feeling. It caught me a bit by surprise and I had to take a deep breath before carrying on. I am a total ball of energy today. In the flow.

I used to think that anchors didn't work. Then I realised I was only generating microwatts of sensations. The energy of a Billion Stars is far more effective.

 Cheesy it is good stuff.

I've noticed that when accessing memories of pleasurable states they seem a lot more... real. I've been doing a lot of image streaming lately and I almost lose myself in the moment only to return gasping for air. It is like I've just stepped off the ultimate roller coaster and all I want to do is go again! I would say it is the closest thing to lucid dreaming I've experienced.

12  Genius Catalyst / This, That and the Other / Computer that says no to obesity on: November 01, 2007, 09:11:03 AM
Anyone having difficulty eating slowly and consciously as suggested by Paul Mckenna may opt for this device in the future.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/healthy_eating/article2741061.ece

Quote
A machine is helping obese teenagers to lose weight by encouraging them to eat more slowly and chiding them if they eat too fast.

Doctors believe that some young people eat so fast that their brains do not have time to work out whether they are full or not. The machine, called a mandometer, weighs their food and encourages them to eat it one mouthful at a time.

Among those who have tried the device is Laurence Willshire, who had a 52-inch waist and weighed 21 stone by the time he was 15. In the year since he started eating more slowly, he has lost four stone and is well on his way to achieving his target of 15st 5lb.

He is one of 120 young people taking part in trials of the machine being conducted by the Childhood Obesity Clinic at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

The mandometer is a computer connected to a set of scales with a plate that is filled with food to a predetermined level. The computer records the weight loss from the plate as Laurence eats and tells him when he is eating more than he should. It also tells him when he is eating too quickly and when he can have his next mouthful. An electronic voice chides him if he eats too quickly. If he carries on eating after it has decided that he has had enough it asks him: ?Are you still hungry??

Laurence, now 16, began putting on weight when he was 8 and was bullied at school. His lack of self-esteem led to comfort eating and he would eat whole packets of biscuits and multipacks of crisps.

I used to eat very fast,? he said. ?I could eat a very large meal in about three minutes. Now I take about 16 minutes. The treatment has given me confidence and I feel very good about myself now.?

His parents, Lydia, 47, and Roy, 48, tried to stop his bingeing but at his peak Laurence, who is 6ft 7in, had a 60-inch chest. His mother said that the weight loss had had a dramatic effect on her son?s personality. ?He?s confident, he?s going out, which he never used to do, and he?s got a great sense of humour. I don?t think we?ve ever really known the real Laurence until now and it?s brilliant.?

The mandometer was developed in Sweden to encourage anorexics to speed up their eating. It has been reprogrammed to persuade fat people to slow down.

Dr Julian Hamilton-Shield, the consultant leading the research, said: ?We found that obese children were eating extremely fast, almost as if they had short-circuited the normal feeling of satiety or fullness. Central to this research is teaching people to relearn normal eating behaviour and only eat until they are full.?

Current trends suggest that a quarter of all British children will be clinically obese by the year 2050.

"you... are... eating... too... fast" *whip sound* whaaaatsshhhhhhhhh!

I'm not really that much into poetry but this one caught my imagination. It's about the size of a short story and takes the reader on a journey that leads into the new millennium and our co-scripting of the future. This is from very early in the book and I thought about what brings a lot of people together on this forum.

Quote
Allow uncontemplated regions
Of time to project themselves
Into your sleeping consciousness,
Inducing terror, or mental liberation.
Much as death-confrontation
Paralyses some with despair
Makes others poison
Themselves with emptiness
But releases in a fortunate few
A quality of enlightenment
A sense of the limited time we have
Here on earth to live magnificently
To be as great and happy as we can
To explore our potential to the fullest
And to lose our fear of death
Having gained a greater love
And reverence for life
And its incommensurable golden brevity.
So it is with this moment.
A gigantic death
And an enormous birth
This mighty moment.
In timelessness.

Ben Okri
Mental Fight: An Anti-Spell for the 21st Century

I really like it because although it highlights the pain and despair felt by so many there is a light burning away all the way through that is fed by the vision of a brilliantly radiant future.
14  Genius Catalyst / This, That and the Other / Re: What is your brain sex? on: October 18, 2007, 07:24:11 AM
Hey, stupid question - what if you're left handed? Is your right side of the brain then also on the left? I mean, are they switched?  Roll Eyes Probably not... otherwise all these tests would be useless and they should ask you if you're lefthanded first. Or did they?

I was thinking something similar myself. I found this little snippet

Quote
"According to most experts, about 90 percent of the world's population is right-handed. Of the remaining 10 percent, about half are "strongly" left-handed. Which is to say, in about 5 percent of people, the right hemisphere is dominant and controls language.
Almost twice as many males as females are left-handed. And according to British psychologist Marian Annett, more than twice as many artists, musicians, mathematicians, and engineers are left-handed as would be expected by chance. [...] About 10 percent of left-handers suffer from language disorders and reading disabilities, while only 1 percent of right-handers do. And recent studies suggest that left-handers are three times more likely to suffer severe migraine headaches and certain types of autoimmune diseases than are right-handed people.

According to Harvard neurologist Norman Geschwind, the cause for left-handedness may lie in testosterone, the male hormone. Geschwind believes testosterone slows the growth of the left hemisphere, thus favoring greater development of the right. "Consequently, males end up right-handed less often than females."

"Understanding Human Behavior" by McConnel, James V, p39.

I'm right handed but my left thumb rests on my right thumb when I clasp my hands. Although there are differences in the structure of both sexes brain I think they are both capable of doing each others job. And as for dominance I'm not convinced that overall there is a dominant hemisphere. Each hemisphere may be dominant in a certain area but how do you quantify what one is in charge? Doing a lot image streaming at the moment and it's all team work I can tell you!

Quote
I'm Bigger, and Bolder, and Rougher and Tougher, in other words Sucker, there is no other...no other...I'm bigger, and bolder, and rougher in other words sucker there is no other,I'm the one and only Dominator, I'm the one and only Dominator

Did a short test for left and right hemisphere dominance and now it appears my left brain is dominant! Saying that for a few of the questions I could have went either way.

http://www.mtsu.edu/~studskl/hd/hemispheric_dominance.html

You responded as a right brained person to 8 questions, and you responded as a left brained person to 11 questions. According to the Hemispheric Dominance test, you use the left side or your brain the most.

Hi Aniinl. I'm a guy and I have an average male brain.

I was reading this article http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/science/article2434432.ece about how autism could be caused by an extreme version of the male brain. In turn this causes a severe lack of empathy. My empathy score was pretty bad which is more than likely accurate thinking of my interaction with humans in general. I have gotten a lot better with age. Coaching at this point in my life is out of the question but not ruled out. I'm actually quite good one to one when I'm imparting knowledge although I can be a bit aggressive and intense in my delivery. What area of couching are you looking at?

18  Genius Catalyst / This, That and the Other / Re: What is your brain sex? on: October 16, 2007, 07:00:52 PM
Using the index/ring finger ratio it said I had a female brain but all other tests say I've a male brain. And it also said the right side of my brain is dominant. I would be interested to know how common that is because I always hear about the left hemisphere being mostly dominant. And an another thought came to mind. I've seen hypnotists use both the clasping of hands and putting palms together. Are they secretly looking for signs of dominance and type of brain?

Right. 'letting go' and 'being walked all over' are not the same thing. You don't have to hate these people or get angry with them therefore you are letting go. ?500 is  a lot of xmas presents so stop fretting and make a plan to get it back. From the little you have posted I'm going to presume they are legally in the wrong so you are being walked all over by worrying over and over about it. Get up off the ground and respectfully get your money back. Use some of that NLP attitude.

Damn you Michael Neill and Paul McKenna! Grin

So I've been mixing the exercise from Paul's CD of stepping into the body of a person who loves you with Michael's practice of sending love to all parts of the body. I've been doing this for a while now and I'm getting some very powerful results. The reason I shake my fist in mock anger at the two aforementioned authors is for a simple reason. IT'S GONE TOO FAR!

So I was drying myself after getting out of the shower and was proceeding to reach for my body spray. I have two of such cans sitting atop my cistern. Arctic Ice and Cool Wave from Gillette. What one do I choose? I started to get the feeling that if I used one I would be letting down the other. My love for both liquid scent receptacles was of equal depth. In the end I chose Cool Wave as the tin is blue and Scotland are playing today and I promised to use Arctic Ice tomorrow. The great Gillette God was appeased and I can now get on with my day!

Yes I'm completely raving bonkers. Come join me Cool

Personally I would be bloomin raging. I had an aunt who had her garden landscaped. The guy really messed it up and wouldn't fix it after she had forked out the cash. She got her journalist son to have a word with him about putting his handy work in the local paper. The guy yielded to stem the wilting of his company. Her garden is now blossoming.

Letting it go would be apt for someone calling you a derogatory name. Stealing is another matter all together.

I just signed up to the show yesterday and found it very interesting. When Richard talks about giving schizophrenics skills to control the thoughts after they have gotten over their problem it really chimed with me because I was saying something similar to a friend just the other day. I've been changing images in my mind for some time now and only really started on the auditory modality in earnest a little while ago.  My 'ARRRGGGGGHHHHHH!' has turned into 'mmmmmMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm' and my exhausted feeling from the constant rabbiting has passed through 'SHUT THE **** UP!' to a 'shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' like a wave retreating from the shore. When Alan Partridge or the Stotts tell me things aren't possible I have to control myself from bursting out laughing.

Just found this. Paul McKenna meets the Stotts.   Grin Grin Grin

29  Genius Catalyst / Supercoach Radio Show / Re: I Can Make You Rich contest!!! on: October 04, 2007, 09:27:38 AM
1. Find Internet cafe.

2. Find most populated forum on the net in an age range that will suit the plan. Of course it would have to be in English as I see the largest is a Japanese site and it would take quite a bit of time to learn Japanese (accelerated learning or not).

3. Phone up large companies and offer to display their click able logo as a large banner that directs users to their site in all my posts. Once we agree on a price for each banner clicked or a fixed price ($200 for the day say for the purposes of this exercise) and get the owner of the cafe to be paid the money to his account in return for giving me the cash I can then... after messing around with some technical issues... I would dive for the forums.

4. Post like crazy and make as many friends as possible. I will laugh at everyone's jokes. I will complement as many people as possible on their posts. I will add sweet but short comments.

At the end of the day I would collect my money and be on my way  Cool

Another idea is to...

1. Find an Internet cafe.

2. Ask the owner if he would agree if I set up a website that he would give me an agreed amount of cash if I let him take the takings from my venture.

3. Get in contact with someone who is selling domain names and work out a price (I read that you can get them for about $70 for 2 years).

4. Phone up lots of companies and find if they would like to advertise on my site. (I've not looked into how this is done on the web although it might be a good idea to find out just in case I find myself lost with $100 in my pocket).

5. Quickly set up fairly basic site with a list of banners and links to other companies.

6. Find that very large forum again and be the most likable guy on the net  Grin

Both ideas still have to be investigated for their practicality and time frame although I think the tried and tested method of advertising through clickable links makes busy websites very rich.

Great thread to start Michelle.

Here is a site I've had a look at and feel almost ready to contribute to it.

http://www.helium.com/

You can read others literary work on many topics including NLP. You can also add your own writing. They have some system of payment if you impress although I've not really looked into that side of it. They are also quite strict on grammar rules so I will have to brush up on them before I dazzle the world Grin

Its amazing when something special happens people look for science to rip it apart

It's not about not about ripping it apart. It's about understanding how it works.

Richard Bandler says believe in this or believe in that. He then goes on to explain a process in which it is possible to change a belief. Now I do this technique and find it very powerful and it is in my nature to try to understand how it works. Curiosity killed the cat but this Tom has more than nine lives.
34  Genius Catalyst / This, That and the Other / Re: Qigong on: September 29, 2007, 11:36:37 AM
'just because they can't prove it doesn't mean he didn't do it'.

Exactly. And another quote that would work just as well is 'just because they can't prove it doesn't mean he did do it'

I say there is a washing machine set to a warm cottons wash under the surface of Mars. And I'll fight you tooth and nail and even attack you with soap powder boxes if you say otherwise. Just because you can't prove it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
35  Genius Catalyst / This, That and the Other / Re: Qigong on: September 29, 2007, 07:55:34 AM
The way I see it is this way. If everyone around me suddenly sprouted wings and started flying around I would think it interesting. My first thought would be 'How is this happening?' (along with another side thought of 'is this an LSD flashback?'). This is the scientist in me wanting to know all the mechanics of this transformation. Now if one of these feathered humanoids floats down from the clouds and says to me 'Isn't it marvelous that the blessed Jebaboos has bestowed upon us the miracle of flight using the power of Voost?'. I would want to know exactly what she was talking about. I would want her claims tested so that I can either accept or reject them. So I would now believe that people can fly but I would want to know 'how'. I will accept the possibility of ideas until they are either disproved or proved. I've never had the fortune or misfortune of meeting anyone who can shock me with their touch so seeing a video of it doesn't convince me either way. So to me it's not my mission in life to zap people or fly into the stratosphere so I'll leave that to others. And when they are good at it they can come and see me and tell me how they do it!

This Guy who they have called DJ (Dynamo Jack) practices Qigong. He is a healer using Chi. He seems to be able to shock people with this energy. It even gets picked up in the recording microphone. happylife has a point with writing down things you want to do. If I don't write things down it is almost like they don't exist and it may be a while before I even think of the task again. As soon as they are on paper it isn't long before they are done.

Maybe a good start would be a motivation strategy. Attaching fun to learning and doing.

Richard Bandler. For his amusing stories.
Bob Monkhouse. A brain like a super computer with more great and funny stories.
Ayn Rand. I would like to know what she thinks of the world we live in today.
Donald Trump. Would love to hear what he thinks of my ideas and would want him to fund my futuristic endeavors Smiley

Been getting this for a few days now

Every message that has a smiley in it just ends up like the ones in the above image.

Just tried to preview that image there but got another x. Basically my computer is not showing smileys... just a red x in a white box. I'm on Vista and this may be why.

Thanks again Jay. Lot's of stuff to look into. I've done the link system in the past for a couple of lists of random objects and found it effect. Now I want to focus on certain subjects and use the system much more so it becomes more automatic as well as being relevant. The glossary tip is a cracker Smiley. I'm also reading Sleight of Mouth. I love it. I've been using some of the patterns already with some of my thoughts and it is a real eye opener. Very useful.

be well mucker

Thanks Jay. I'm still a little confused. Have you got Mr Brown's phone number as I want to know what he's up to  Cheesy. He does say at the start of the book that he will be completely honest if not entirely open. Anyway...

On the subject of memory do you know of any resources on the net of lists on certain subjects that can be memorized using the link system? Not like a book but rather just a list. For example there might be one with a list of all the parts of the brain. It would then be up to me to link them together in humorous ways.

Thanks

Brian
