Hello folks,

I desperately need to find a job. Along with the economic situation, my own business is faltering probably due to my own actions. I've been working from home for several years making ends meet, but the time is come now that those ends aren't meeting. I am worried and scared at not being able to make my basic bills and rent.

I've been searching for new jobs, even part time or 'gigs' to get the bills/rent paid, but I feel very unsuitable to work anywhere or that I can't handle a workplace now that I've worked from home for several years. Essentially, I am sitting at home all day on the internet not making money and not finding work and not feeling very good about myself. I've been to lots of therapy which seems to have made me feel more like a reject than I had before...or should I say those reject traits I had have been front and center for so long now, I truly feel useless.

Ok, I know it probably sounds bad to come in a ask for something for free. I know full well that this type of coaching and the efforts and time spent by someone else is valuable!! But I told myself I would ask, so here I am asking if someone here would consider or knows of someone who would consider coaching someone for free or for trade. I do website work, so that could be a possible trade.

I've followed Michael's podcasts and methods, etc, for about 4 years now and have always thought it would be the ultimate to have a coach like that. He has such a vast reach of tips, knowledge, methods, etc., that it seems no problem is unsolvable. Since I know I can't afford it, I'd like to reach out and see if there's anyone else out there with skills at that type of coaching that could help me.

All in all, I have experienced some blows in my life recently and have been going to therapy for a few years now with no great result that I can see. I am getting depressed again, and just want to feel like I am a worthwhile person so that I can function better. I feel much more like a punished child hanging back in my room while life goes on for others outside. And I am not a child! I've used up that card. I am in the full blown "productive adult" stage of my life, tired of feeling "too damaged."

If anyone has any tips or help, please let me know....

Thanks,
Nichole

Hi Nichole,

Firstly, congratulations for having the courage to make this post your first  Grin

Even though you choose to add the description that "your making ends meet" I'm going to point out that you have been working at home for several years. I haven't got the statistics to hand right at this moment but I do know that many people who attempt that get nowhere near several years. So you may want to cut yourself some slack on that one Wink

I'll also point out that even though you are not offering an exchange of money you are offering a potential exchange of service/skill that others find of value. That's not asking for something for free, you're just making a payment in another form.

You mentioned searching for new jobs, how many have you actually applied for? Remember making an application does not mean that you have to say yes to the job if you are offered it. It's also a lot easier for a potential employer to say yes if you give them the chance and tell them about yourself!

I read your post I was reminded of a particular book that I suspect that you'll like. It's called "A Rich Man's Secret" by Ken Roberts. It's written as a fiction book and I found it a very easy read. The plus side is that you won't have to pay the cost of a brand new book as it's out of print - you'll have to either get a copy via your local public library or a second hand book seller. Both amazon.com and amazon.co.uk currently have copies starting from $0.01 and ?0.01 (+ shipping) respectively.

Love

Jen

Hi

I have run my own business for many years and have had some times when I didn't think I could keep it together. Looking back on those times the main thing that made a difference between a good year and a bad one was getting some perspective on things.

I'm sure you know some great ways to move forward but you sometimes get in your own way. When you are on top form you have some great ideas. Here are a few things that will help.

1. Eat well. Take some time to prepare a good meal and eat it in a relaxed fashion away from your computer.

2. Stop work at a reasonable time everyday unless you have something important to finish. The more hours I worked the less money I made.

3. Go out and get some exercise, perhaps  a walk or a cycle ride.

As you begin to look and feel better you will start to get some ideas.

You might like to listen to an audio I did about how one of the first things I did to turn my business around was to buy a plant. (It's free.) The plant got me to realise that it isn't the big things that make a difference but small changes every day. By the end of the month your world could be very different if you just keep at it.

One last thought. My main business is electronic test equipment for industry it is still doing pretty well , despite the changes in the economy, and the main reason for that is having a website that gets great positions on Google. There are loads of people out there who want more business and one of the best ways to get it is to have a great web page.Talk to those people, help them to succeed.

Look after yourself

Have you ever felt on top of the word and full of confidence? can you name ten times in your life you have felt that way? Is that feeling any less real then the lack of confidence and self esteem.  Perhaps your judgments of yourself are inaccurate and certainly they are not useful!  I'd love to see some of the stuff you've done - feel free to email me direct at terri@geniuscatalyst.com.
It wouldn't hurt to list  a hundred times when you did something a little bit amazing Smiley

Hey Nicole,
I like your honesty and the bold request.
I work with women who have big dreams. My specialty area is Confidence and personal reinvention. What are your biggest dreams? What kind of job would have you jump out of bed? Are you willing to think beyond your limiting stuff? If so, I'll give you 1 hour of my time.

You are right, professional coaching isn't free but I've been in a similar situation 6 or 7 years ago and it would be my pleasure to help you shift. Back then I also found someone who helped me.

You can reach me on eve@evelynebrink.com. I am based in London, UK.
