what if we took 5 minutes, ten minutes... an hour on New Years day... and just beat the crap out of yourself emotionally...

I am worthless, I never say the right thing, I am ugly and fat, and too short and my hair is the wrong color...
etc
etc

and then... because we got that out of the way early... we never have to do it again for the rest of the year?

I wonder how could I let it go ? I understand it all wrong, it is not helping me, I even doesn't believe all those "puttings down" but I just can't let it go !

Interesting idea yet very impractical the way the brain works if you was to spend 5-10 minutes let alone anything longer you would install an even stronger "negative self reference than the one you had before- which from where I am standing would be nothing more than sadomasochistic- plus then you have a commitment then in holding and policing your thoughts for 364 days- which is impractical and would be more harmful over all- the faster way I have come to know in getting (bad) thoughts out of the way is just to let them come up when they do and thank them. there just thoughts nothing more nothing less, do the best you can to be none judgmental about them and they will tend to just stop-  if you going to tell your brain anything, make it at the very least kind- and look after yourself.

There is one thought which always accompanied self-doubts: look, you are ok now, listening to us, you are not perfect but you are ok ! You have so many thing which makes you really happy ! But as they say it is better to have a tomtit in your hands than a crane in the sky. What happens to you if you risk it & What if you fail & You are not good enough, impossible is impossible !

Tom,

How about doing it the other way around?  Love yourself all year without exception and give yourself permission to have a really good 5 minute bash up at the end of the year?

My guess is you'd get to the end and probably wouldn't really feel like it.

Love,

Elese
