Don’t be too quick to dismiss those ‘fantasies from your childhood’.
I often think that children are far more connected with their true inner desires and enthusiasms than we are taught to be as Proper Grown-up People.

I remember as a 12 year-old desperately wanting to be a WWII fighter pilot. I had the whole scenario, bedroom ceiling festooned with model aircraft etc etc. The fact that the closing date for the job had long since past didn’t seem to occur to me at the time!
Anyway in due course I became a Proper Grown-up Person, the model aircraft were consigned to the bin but somehow the fantasy of flying wouldn’t go away. Finally at the age of 48 I started flying. And it was just as much fun as I
knew it was going to be at the age of 12.
These 12 year olds can be a lot wiser than we give them credit for
