Can anyone give me any advice on finding inner peace please?

As an artist I am consistantly fighting with myself feeling like my work isn't good enough, won't sell etc etc lot's of negatives go round in my mind daily and it's hard to fight them.

I would really love to feel at peace and allow myself to enjoy my art both creating it and the finished piece but this constant battle is blocking my creativity and making me feel miserable. I don't know how to make it stop.

I believe I am an artist and that I will succeed but whenever I try to create art that is more challenging I get the inner critic voices and I give up and feel miserable. My 'wow' would be to be able to enjoy my work without the inner critics bringing me down.

Just to be happy being me would be wonderful.

Hi NikiJ
This is a little NLP-Hypnotic- pattern-read it a number of times and allow; your attention of focus to go along for the ride.

Inner peace one of those things that is as simple as breathing- as its with you where ever you go- and is “just” about allowing yourself to catch it.

Once you start to notice just a little peace, here and now, then you can allow that to bear upon, your life more and more-

I don’t know if you have ever “just” allowed yourself to stand still- and notice- the space in between you and the objects in the place you are- and as you may do this- you might “just” notice that in the spaces in-between- you and the rest of the world there  are on obstructions- and there is a quietness- where if you allow your attention to fall-inside you can feel this peace in that moment- bearing up on the next moment- and if you allow yourself to step in with “just” that moment- you can stay in each and every moment allowing peace to flow in and through- your life in “just” right ways.

Not I am not sure yet I am guessing that you know what peace is just for you, and if you would allow yourself just for a few moments step in to that peace- knowing if you can do it here and now- then you can do it, at any time when you allowing yourself to notice that peace is with you- where ever you go.

Giving yourself permission- maybe just a first step in allowing peace in, and if you are willing to give yourself permission, when you by doing so give you self permission to step into peace- in any time you need peace to be there- in all the places you need it most- and just like breathing the more you allow yourself to notice peace in day to day times and places- before long- in a time it will show up even more.

I am sure that you must have a sense of what peace is like, as you would have some idea- from times before now, when you was at peace in all those time before- and as you an all them memories be with you- in this time- you can allow these and new feelings of peace to be with you in all your futures-

So as you can allow- feeling of peace to come and go: knowing that if you pay attention- to where you would like peace to be in all the places- in your life- now as you notice more and more peace in your life- you know its right with you in just that right ways that work for you.

Thank you I will do this, it's a great idea.

I do know what inner peace feels like but don't allow myself to feel it.

Thank you.

Hi Niki One of the biggest problems i have had is feeling innr peace and allowing myself to have it ...So i meditate with some simple music...relaxing and then I note the thoughts that come through ...i have started to use a small tape recorder to do this...and guess what the answers come to me...
so why not allow yourself half an hour or more if poss to meditate and see what happens...everybody says I DONT HAVE TIME...well allow yourself time ..its your life !!!
Good luck
love and light to you

Thanks Peter.

Since posting I have since discovered that the reason I don't have inner peace is because I don't feel worthy as an artist or as a person. I'm listening to all the shows to try and change this.

Hi Niki

I am not an artiest- in the drawing sense- yet I do have a way with words- or so some people say- I don't write poems so often any more- yet after reading this post- my heart was touched with these words- that I will share with you.

peace is not something that you need to be worthy of- its an intrinsic part of being a human being- if you listen to the beating of your heart- it's there- if you watch a pool of water it's there- if you watch the sun set its there- if you listen to a cat perrrrrr it's there-

being at peace just is- there is no yesterday its a memory- three is no tomorrow- only as a plan/goal or a fantasy- so there is the here and now- and as you can only be in the now- there peace is with you if you open to it

and now I will let my poem to dance-

Why Can’t I Fly & I’m Letting Go?

Letting life go
Standing in no place- timeless
Seeing the world from an orbit afar
Not allowing life to flow
There’s whisper in each day
Let your heart point you the way
Melting the iron boots from a living hell
Tied down in this earthy shell
Singing in places where angels play
Laying down where dreams have there say
A whisper wins a night to stay
A life in motion touches an emotion
A war lord begs for freedom
A answers bares upon a journey
A kind word
A new born day
A love of life
A way to be that sets one free
Yet some how I can’t get free
A walk in the park still leaves me in the dark
A wise old tree listens to me
Gratitude given
An honour code is smitten
A new day waits
A love affair begets a life in motion
A dream starts over
Wisdom dances
A heart romances
A warrior from afar
Standing in life’s door way
There’s no place to run
Life holds your heart in its hand
A shield from a foe
There’s a time to fly
And it’s time to let go

Hi again
off the top of my head try this

make a list of all those people in the past you really got on with liked and they liked you
dont say you never had such friends ever cos i wont believe you
also events in your past you really enjoyed
picture each one in turn in your mind ..eyes closed if you like
then really give them some strength .sound colour etc laughing

include favourite tv or comedy programmes

then place a pic of your self at this moment in a frame how you feel at this moment .place a thick black frame around it

then push or squash the good picture into the bad ...really squash the bad feelings out with the good friends etc
and go brrrrrrrrrzzzzzzzzzzzzz as you do it
open eyes and change your thoughts etc

good luck

as we are all INCLUDING YOU !!! worth a hell of a lot............

Hi Niki!

I can relate to the struggle of finding inner peace as an artist. I am an actress Smiley  I find that so much of the time we;re telling ourselves that our work is no good, who do we think we are, who am I to paint that, say that, write that ...whatever. It's a constant battle with that inner critic.

First I just want to let you know you're not alone!! So many people don't even get to the point where they even begin to do something creative/artistic bc they are in so much fear. So KUDOS to you for being the artist you ARE !! It takes a tremendous amount of courage.

Second, i'd like to suggest two books..... First-- The Artists Way by Julia Cameron. It is THE BIBLE on creativity. And second, Marianne Williamson's A Return to Love. This book was such a revelation for me and I think every woman on the planet should read it. This is my favorite excerpt--

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Keep on truckin Niki Smiley

Oh, and one other thing, ...someone else mentioned this in another post, but I believe a daily practice of silence/ meditation in one's life is, without a doubt, the most powerful thing you can do to keep your spirit alive.

If we do not go within, we will go without.

 Grin

All the very best,
karen

Hi Karen
Wow thank you so much for your reply. It really means a lot to know I am not alone  Smiley I have the artist's way it really helped unblock me last year, I didn't finish it but it made a huge difference to my life. I need to pick it up again. I haven't read the other book you mentioned but will definitely check it out.

Thanks again I really appreciate your post.
