Anyone else having probs with smileys?

Been getting this for a few days now

Every message that has a smiley in it just ends up like the ones in the above image.

Just tried to preview that image there but got another x. Basically my computer is not showing smileys... just a red x in a white box. I'm on Vista and this may be why.

It does seem to be catching the  lacking of smiley's is just an outrage and we demand our right to smiley's.
