Hi All,
This is my first visit to the site and I am enjoying it very much.  The question is why am I looking at this site in the middle of the day instead making progress in other areas?  Over the past few years I have been trying to start a business in real estate and feel it would be a great fit for me.  At times I feel great about it and at others times I feel stuck in the mud, like today.  To many bills to pay, to many people calling for money, yet I still have the fear that I cannot do this.  I have the education, not the confidence to move forward.

About a month ago I hear about Steve Chandler and have read a couple of his books.  They are making sence.  We have the power within us to make the changes necessary.  Taking action is the key to getting moving in the right direction.  I look at the mountain of bills, mountain of work to be done, and time needed for my family and don't know were to start.  Overwhelmed is a good term to use.

I am open to all sugestions and followup material.  The world if filled with books and tapes, but I want to stay in the same "family" of ideas that Steve works with.  Consistancy of the message may work best right now.

Thanks for the responce!

I haven't read any of Mike's books at this point.  "You Can Have What You Want" will probably be the first, but I am open to suggestions.  If you recommend any of Mikes or someone else who you find helpful, I would appreciate the help.

I know this feeling well and now what I do when feeling overwhelmed is start doing something. I may have to bribe myself i.e. 'do this and then you can have a coffee and biscuit' for example. I also find setting a timer works wonders - you can do almost anything for 15 mins and then allow yourself to stop if you want to. Oftern I find that after 15 mins I resent the timer going off as I want to carry on. The mind can be very contrary sometimes! Huh
The other thing I do is see how much I can get done in the time - this works with housework which I really don't like doing  Grin

I too love the timer ladypol.   Like you, I don't like housework so knowing I'm only going to do it for 15 minutes at a time is great.  I also use it when filling in my tax return. Also stops me being a perfectionist and spending too long on something. And I use it a lot for being disciplined about things like email time and general computer time.

And the children respond much better when I say "I'm going to set hte timer for 5 minutes and we're going to see how tidy we can get the playroom in that time"  rather than "let's tidy the playroom"

The other great thing about a timer is I realised how little time it takes to do some things.  For years i thought emptying hte dishwasher took ages, so I'd put it off (when you're a mum of babies and toddlers, finding 10 minutes is NOT that easy), but one day I timed myself and realised it took 2 minutes, or a maximum of 3.  Now it just doesn't seem like so much of a chore. Smiley  Besides, the children do it sometimes  Cheesy

Yes, I used to play the time game withmy toddlers years ago (at 21 and 16 they've just about grown wise to me! Smiley) I've only recently started playing it on myself and am delighted that it works.
Like Etty I realised that many things that I put off are really pretty quick if you time them. Also I find doing things like seeing whether I can empty the dishwasher while the kettle is boiling is great too.
One other thing that I've found great with chores over the years is giving my two girls a choice of chores they want to do (it obviously presupposes that they will do something!) Yes, I still get to do the yucky stuff but at least I don't have to everything and I think it has given them an appreciation of what needs to be done rather than expecting the 'clean up fairy' to do it all  Shocked

My girls are now 9 and 12 and strangely the younger one likes to be given a "to do list" with things she can tick off as she does them.  The older one just sees it has more work, however I present it,  but Sarah thinks it's great so I also put things on it like "cuddle mummy" or "eat 2 biscuits".

Hi
I had been taught this from one of Micheals shows. Just commit to one action a day that is linked to your goal.
say-Today I will make 5 calls
Today I will take one action that is  a PART of the goal result.
For instance I want to "speak" at a local book store.
All that material and Ideas are over whelming. Its taken me weeks to move on it
But 3 days a go I created a flyer--2 days ago I modified my website to reflect the flyer. And today I printed the flyer.
Tomorrow I will present the flyer to the bookstore...and If I do not I will Monday.
One baby step at a time. Hope this helps :}
