I first want to say that I absolutely LOVE your show. I've been hooked on listening to you ever since I heard one show about 2 months ago. I love your style, your humor, your techniques and the ways that you help people (myself included) out of feeling stuck. Ever since I first heard you, I've been going through the archives and listening to your older shows...some of them multiple times. I now listen to your show, rather than watching the morning news, while getting ready for work. So much more enlightening. One time I heard you tell the story of the Room of a Thousand Demons. When I heard that, I thought, "Hey, that's the story I heard Bill O'Hanlon tell!" I am a psychologist and went to an all-day workship given by Bill O'Hanlon in the mid-80's, when I was a grad student. That was the only workshop during grad school where I didn't want to take a nap when we all came back from lunch. I've ended up using many of his techniques since then. So, I was very excited when I saw that he was a guest on one of your shows. I've now listened to that show many times. The 4 signals he spoke about for motivating (blissed, blessed, pissed, or dissed) were very timely for me. I had just come back from a meeting out of town to arrange a program to help elderly adults in need (my specialty). What I found out was that the person who set up the meeting (a government official) was hoping that I would do this work on a volunteer basis because the government won't pay. I was disheartened and felt both dissed (for having my time wasted, since I'm not independently wealthy and need to make some income in order to eat) and pissed for the government not spending money to help a population that really needs help. It took the wind out of my sails. I kept trying to feel positive so that I could find some new ideas and feel motivated again. It wasn't happening. When I heard O'Hanlon talk about using those negative feelings to motivate yourself, it made me see it in a different light and I felt free to experience those feelings and find a way to use them... and to brainstorm with people whose ideas I respect. NOW that I have been inspired about how to proceed and am fueled by my feeling of being dissed and pissed, I feel positive...extremely positive and excited! Thank you so much!!
And keep it up...My days go so much better when I start off listening to you!
Happy and Healthy New Year!
