Hi all,

Those of you that have read some of my previous posts will know that i am the undisputed king (and all round big cheese) of the British Association of Technophobics (B.A.T.)

With this in mind, i am asking a huge favour.

I am having a website designed (apparantly this one is 'all singing, all dancing' with the optional Bells & Whistles)

The person that is designing / building my new site is very good at what they do, but needs some input from me to finish the site...they have asked me to supply somehing called 'metatags'

Now, as far as i am aware these are otherwise known as 'keywords' ?..i may be wrong.

I know some of you have sites for your NLP / coaching businesses / practices.

What does the panel suggest i use as meta tags ?

I need 10 by the way.

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Mark

Here are a few that you might consider, my reason for adding porn and Obama, are they are at the moment the top two searched for- after a few months, on line you would change the porn one, yet it's a sneaky was of getting the search bots aiming at your site faster- the tags you would also consider would be related to the type of service you offer- it's important that you get your site in the tag box, as the bots will aim for the dot.com/.uk etc much faster.

YOURSITE.COM, NLP, Bandler, Grinder, Barack Obama, Psychology, Hypnosis, Mckenna, porn, NLP Connections, Life coaching, money, free.

Another thing to consider is to create a hidden page, as to have a few hundred links on it- and the search bots will swarm to the site helping you a listing-

Also,

What the deuce is a 'tagbox ?

And for that matter what is a 'search bot' ?

All sounds a bit 'Martrix' to me

Hi Mark

A tag box is the location on the site where you add the meta tags, just like the little box you type your messages here to reply to questions etc, only its specifically for meta tags, and operates in the background, a search bot is a small bit of computer language code a little bit like a post code/zip code that connects/links you on to a search engine/database..etc So if some one was to type into google "Mark NLP", apart of your meta-tag response  code will create a listing as an option, because you fill in part of that criteria etc.

I have decided to create a sub division of the British Asscoiation of Technophobics (B.A,T.)

It is for those of us that are 'of a certain age' and remember the days of hand written memos and a good old fashined phone call.

The new division wil be called - Fogies Against Recent Technology ( F.A.R.T.)

Contact me for membership details - by post if possible !

Can you elaborate a bit on this? I need that, too, and I like hidden secret things but I didn't understand a thing... Will I have a hidden page on my website, with lots of links? And what would the links link to? To other sites? (Like Obama and porn..?) Or the other way round?

 Huh

Thank you,
Anja

Hi

The site you link to would be other NLP - Life coaching and personal development etc.  What I mean it's a Live page yet its not published to the general public- the why - search engines like links the more you have- on your site the more active search bots will visit your site- the more bots you get the bigger the rating your site will get- having a live page with 300-400 links looks sloppy- yet if you create a hidden page that is live yet not on public display-it will work in just the same way that a open live page would- giving your site a extra boost-  At the moment Obama is really big news- he's on TV and the news daily- so- its worth exploiting such in your meta tags- adult sites- generate a hug amount of traffic- so it's just another way of exploiting the way search engines work-

Aaaah, I think I got it! So basically I have a hidden page with links to let's say geniuscatalyst.com and if someone would google that, my site would come up in the list, even though nobody can see the word geniuscatalyst on my site.

Very hypothetical example of course, since I would never *hide* a link to geniuscatalyst, but put it in big fat bold bright red alarm letters for everyone to see...  Wink

another way is to have a bunch of keywords typed in the same color as your background on your home page...

and then I have a question about using other terms like porn as a keyword...
If I am, for example, doing a search for "confidence personal love life" I would probably put in a few "minus terms" as well... like -porn, -viagra.... etc to filter out all those things... and don't some browsers do that for you as one of their settings... so could this work against you?
or am I missing something?

but... where did you lose your way... how can we help?

Mark

I'm not sure this applies to the meta tags as discussed (that was my question), but when you are doing a search in google (for example) you can search and then when the initial search comes back if you notice that you are getting a bunch of results that you don't want you can ad a negative term to the search...
in the example I gave above (i don't remember) something like- "confidence love life" - I would be searching for affirmations or techniques for being a more confident in my love relationships.
Undoubtedly, Products like Viagra would show up.
so by adding the term "-viagra" to the search it will eliminate all results with the term viagra in them...
So... my new google search would be "confidence love life -viagra"

and then this part...
>  another way is to have a bunch of
>  keywords typed in the same color as
>  your background on your home page..

if you go to any webpage often there are blank areas... where there is just space...
the background shows through be it white or black or mauve... any color you choose when you create your page...
you can type words there as you create your webpage and if you make those words the same as the background they will not show up... if you type with white ink on white paper those words do not show up. you can even make them an extremely small font.
Search engines see them though, because they *are* words on a webpage.

I remember hearing early in internet history someone downloaded all the words in the english language onto their webpage and did this... any time anyone searched for *ANYTHING* they were sent there.
Search engines have gotten better at filtering out stuff.

does that help?

I'd heard that hidden pages and keywords that can't be seen cause Google to through a fit and then you could get banned (is that even possible?) from search results.
