I am legally blind, live truly in the middle of nowhere (love it here in The Middle of Nowhere), and run a small horseback riding and horse training program. Yes, you heard right...I'm legally blind but teach horseback riding. I lost my vision about 12 years ago but am here to tell you that low vision has made me a far better instructor, as well as trainer of young horses. I am much more sensitive and intuitive than I used to be, with far more in'"sights" than when I had 20/20 vision.

My question: after listening to the brilliant Dr. Richard Bandler on "You Can Have What You Want," I bought the book "Use your mind for a change." Then I heard the most recent interview just a few weeks ago and actually tried playing with some NLP-ish techniques with a student who was working herself up into a big fear of falling off her horse.

Of curse, I didn't have a clue what I was doing: I asked my student to see herself being scared and tell me the thoughts she used to get herself there. Then I asked her if it was true, did she know for sure she was going to fall off. And she said, "No, I can't say for sure."  At which point I gave her a very Michael Neill type of response: "Since you might fall off, but then again, you might not, how about choosing the option that feels the best?" So then I asked her to focus again on those scared feelings while I sang circus music in a Munchkin voice.

When I asked her to again try to make herself scared of falling off the horse, she laughed and said, "I can't. I ca't do it."

With results like this, I am eager to get a Bandler-sanctioned certification in NLP to augment my riding program.

The problem is that due to my vision, I can't drivie to any classes. My adaptive computer software helps me function greatly in the real world, so I wonder if Dr. Bandler offers online certification. I could not find any such information when I did a search.

Thanks so much!

Hi Anastasia

First of all well done on doing NLPish technique-

Richard Bandlers trainings are only live-(as far as I am aware) NLP is a very hands training/ brains on training- Richard's style of training- uses a process of unconscious installation- in a very basic way that is Richard uses Hypnotic communication through out- his training- and build layers and layers of process associations- which are then processed at a sub conscious level- of mind and them turned into behavior based skills- so the online learning format would not support Richard's way of doing NLP.

Thanks, Jay, for your thoughtful reply. And yes, I can see how an online thing would siimply not work. Well, I'll just keep reading and hey, who knows? Maybe Richard will get tired of all those big, bustling cities where thosands can take take a seminar and he'll opt instead for a weekend retreat near our little slice of heaven in Pilot Hill, CA.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond!

Hi Anastasia

Your very welcome- they are alternatives- I you wish to read about them- not related to anything Richard Bandler promotes personally- yet are a very good foundation to the NLP practitioner skill set- going back to Richard a few lines- he may not do an online training yet- the www.purenlp.com website has a number of Richards workshops on DVD and CD- and his training partner John La Valle also as a NLP practitioner CD set- it does not lead to any certification- yet is good listening- the alternative I was talking about comes from NLP Comprehensive http://www.nlpco.com/ first link is to the home page and the this link is to the home study program-  http://www.nlpco.com/pages/misc/LE.php and does lead to a practitioner certification- the program is very well put together and you get access- to several  NLP trainers- two of them are out standing contributors to the NLP field and they would be Charles Faulkner and Steve Andreas- Steve Andreas was the Editor of the Now famous- "Frogs in to Princes" which was the first NLP book- that introduced the NLP technology for the first time- to the general public- they was four other books that came before Frogs- the four books that came before Frogs- The structure of magic- which is an academic text that introduced the Meta model- and the Patterns of Milton Erickson which was and introduction to the Milton model- and each was a 2 volume set- and are foundations behind NLP-

On one of our recent practitioners we had two visually impaired delegates and created an audio version of the manual for them. Our events are also Bandler certificated, and training details can be found at www.tranceformingnlp.com. I would recomend a live training everytime above books, materials etc, however also check www.nlpmp3.comwhichhas interviews with Bandler and many similarly skilled trainers which are all free to download

I was just thinking why not see if you can get an NLP practitioner to come and run a seminar from your place. You could, perhaps, combine it with the 'learning from horses' element too, as an additional twist.

Wow, I haven't checked in for awhile (having a few problems with the old vision that prevented me from going online). But I'm glad to be back and to see those wonderful new suggestions.

Thank you to all of you who have answered my query.

As to Michael's question about "the middle of nowhere," my husband and I operate a small B & B and riding center in a place called Pilot Hill, population 400. It is in the heart of the California Gold Country, where the gold rush started. In the late 1800's, there were about 30,000 miners living here. Now it's just us chickens...and horses...and a Golden Retriever. Beside horse back riding, there is wonderful river rafting and other great outdoors activities, including snoozing under the oak trees.

Pilot Hill is actually just an hour outside of Sacramento, so--good news here--if Richard ever does a seminar in Sac, I'm there. I might even take the train to San Francisco, if he's there.

You, too, Michael. I would love to see you bring your energy and message to the Bay Area. We need you!

I LOVE the suggestion of having an NLP trainer come to our home. I have the room for a small group so this would be fantastic. Thanks for the suggestion.

I will also check out the recorded versions. This is the best option for me!

Thanks again to all! This is the BEST group of people!
