After I wrote this in the Business section, I realized that it may be more of a coach question. So here it is- again!

I have an opportunity to partner with someone and launch a new business that could lead to some much needed financial security. However, the work itself and the place which I am currently located, are not my ideal.
I am less than secure financially and, as a single mom, I feel like the logical action would be to jump on this opportunity. It has been suggested to me that I ought to "buckle down" and do work that is less than inspiring in order to be financially "stable" enough to do what I really want. Is this the bitter truth? I would really appreciate some thoughts and ideas. Thanks!

Hi,

Is there a clear path from doing this for now, to doing what you really want to be doing? If you can see how having this security will allow you to do what you want, and when, and you can measure your progress towards it, then sure, go for it.

If it's a means of bringing in enough to cover expenses, but doesn't let you save, or leave you time to develop/train/progress towards what you want to do , then maybe look and see what other opportunities you have?

All the best,

Martin.

Well ... people that have said to me "buckle down and get stable" (financially ...well I think they meant financially  Smiley) are those that seek to apply their map to everyone else. That's what they've done so that's what we all 'should' do.

Personally, I've found when I don't do what I'm passionate about I struggle to be successful. I'm much happier in my life now I've set some well-formed outcomes and am taking action to achieve them.

Yes, as Martin says, if you have a clearly defined path to your destination, maybe some short-term diversions are okay. If not, it's all too easy for the diversion to become the journey. Take care.

Much love,
Ian

Hi Hilary,

Just an addition to the other advice that has been posted. In a few of his shows (I can't remember which ones i'm afraid  Sad ) Michael has done an exercise that I found was really great when faced with making decisions. I can't remember it in full detail (maybe someone else has the process written down) but it involves taking a mental walk down three different paths. One is continuing as you are, the second is pursuing the new opportunity and the third is for an as yet unknown option. You notice how each path flows, what is surrounding you as you walk down it and how you feel as you are walking it. By the end of the exercise, it is often far easier to decide which path you would most like to follow.

Another exercise from Michael's book that you might like to try is on Page 82 'Use your head, Listen to your heart, Trust your gut'.

Good luck,

Andy

Hello Induna

I have been free of your current decision to make, so I have never walk even a milameter in your shoes, Howerever, the questions would appear  to be   “WHAT DO YOU WANT”?  (yes what do you realy want?)

Namaste

The above posts have some realy good advice  Smiley
